Future of driving?
Peter Visuri
Currently many manufacturers are evolving into electric cars which caught the focus of many from environmentalist to Petrolheads to about everyone - though it is the future and we will be caught sooner or later – however in the mean time…
A more discrete but also a lot more challenging evolution is the way cars are handled on the road, the changes coming now can be summarized in the following few bullets.
Autonomous driving - Self-driving cars, will need the following parts.
V2X - Infrastructure changes where cars are talking/exchanging information with other cars/stop signs/pedestrian/emergency vehicles and much more
5G/IoT – The 5th Generation communication standard includes a lot of new technology to enable IoT (Internet of things) which will be seen getting a lot of attention the coming years when rolling out in big scale (already begun)
AI – Artificial Intelligence. There are many levels from smart programming following good algorithms via Machine Learning where the program learns from pre-set or collected data to full AI where the decisions are set by and evaluated by the program itself which could be used to do the programming as well which means less control by any human.
The big problem here is moral and ethics – this has a profound affect on most humans which avoid certain things which a machine might not even consider.
Security… as usual there are concerns about if the wrong person gets access to these systems, what could be worst case and how to prevent it.
Hacking these systems can allow many Hollywood film scenarios from car accidents to complete terror actions. The systems are becoming so complex that protecting them will have to become even more complicated.
